'Suma Oriental' is a reference to the brilliant work of Tomé Pires, a 16th century Portuguese apothecary. A very precise description of Southeast Asia, Suma Oriental details for the first time the trade in sandalwood, from the Sumba Islands (now Indonesia). This collection inspired 'A Suma' in 1934 by the famous perfumer Coty, evoking moonlight on a beach in Bali.
