PHILIPPE ROMANO : UN GRAND NOM DE LA PARFUMERIE

A Great Perfumer: Philippe Romano

Have you ever felt a fragrance that instantly transports you to another universe? A fragrance that tells a story, awakens memories and stirs your emotions? Who are the creators behind these unforgettable compositions?

Philippe Romano, one of the greatest names in perfumery, has captured the very essence of olfactory memory. But who was this scent artist really and what were his inspirations? Discover his fascinating journey and his olfactory legacy that has marked the history of perfumery.

BIRTH AND CHILDHOOD

Philippe Romano, born on December 23, 1957 in Grasse, was destined for perfumery. The son of a perfumer, he spent his childhood in Spain, bathed in the scent of orange trees, where he developed a deep love for freedom and nature. These early experiences forged his character and his unique approach to creation.

TRAINING AND START OF CAREER

Trained at Robertet in Grasse, alongside his father and other industry experts, Philippe acquired an exceptional mastery of the art of composing fragrances. His career then took him around the world — from Japan to Brazil, via the United States — where he continued to enrich his knowledge.

AN INTERNATIONAL CAREER

After spending 23 years at Robertet, Philippe joined the Paris branch of Drom Fragrances in 2000, continuing his career with the same passion for over 18 years. He has not only created perfumes, but also mentored and inspired young talents, generously passing on his know-how.

ICONIC CREATIONS

Throughout his career, Philippe Romano has collaborated with prestigious brands such as Abercrombie & Fitch, Azzaro, Kenzo, Lalique, Mercedes-Benz, and Yves Rocher. His iconic creations include Escada Pacific Paradise , Yves Rocher FlowerParty , and Salvador Dali Le Roy Soleil , fragrances that have marked the history of modern perfumery.

PASSION FOR NATURAL RAW MATERIALS

Philippe distinguished himself by his love of natural raw materials and his mastery of sweet accords. He excelled in the use of floral and fruity notes, while having an in-depth knowledge of butyrate and sulfuric aromas, which contributed to the rise of the fruity perfume family, notably with the legendary Escada limited editions.

1970s INSPIRATION

Inspired by the vibrant creativity of the 1970s, Philippe Romano sought to capture the raw essence of the era through his compositions. Ingredients like vetiver, sandalwood and patchouli were among his favorites, which he used to evoke deep emotions and rekindle memories with every spray.

A LIFE OF PASSIONS AND SIMPLICITY

An epicurean at heart, Philippe loved the simple and refined pleasures of life: Japanese culture, good whisky, Tagada strawberries, rosé wine, the Mediterranean, motorcycling and guitar. But more than anything, he cherished the moments shared with his loved ones, which was a testament to his generous and warm nature.

AN OLFACTORY HERITAGE

On August 12, 2021, after a fierce battle with illness, Philippe Romano passed away. His olfactory legacy, however, remains immortal, forever marking the world of perfumery with his unique and creative imprint. His works continue to capture the essence of unforgettable moments, and his influence on the perfume industry remains unmatched.

Philippe Romano leaves behind an inestimable olfactory legacy, shaped by his passion, his know-how and his love of natural materials. His creations continue to inspire and mark the world of perfumery, capturing emotion and memory in each fragrance. Beyond his iconic creations, it is his creative genius, his generosity and his quest for authenticity that have truly marked the industry.
