The sandalwood transistor radio plays ragas in the Bandra heat. The hot copper tubes warm the soft wood, releasing scents of musk, cream, peach, ambrette, coconut and cedar distillates.
Radio Bombay is a deconstruction of Mysore sandalwood, reconstructed from all the aspects mentioned above. I imagine the radio sitting in a small, warm shop in Bandra — the “Brooklyn” of Bombay (sorry). The heat breaks down the oils in the wood. Ragas and Geeta Dutt melodies echo from its small speaker into the bustling city.
